One page. Two scores. Never blended.

The AI score asks whether an assistant could use the page as a source. The Google score asks whether Google can show it. Kept apart, because the fixes are different.

The AI score: could an assistant use this page?

Out of 100, pass mark 70. It looks for what an assistant lifts into an answer, and what it needs before it can.

  • The answer in the first linesAssistants quote the sentence that answers the question. If it comes third, they quote someone else.
  • A visible dateAssistants prefer sources they can tell are current. A date on the page is the simplest signal.
  • A named source for every figureA number with who measured it, where and when is a fact an answer can cite. A number alone is a claim.
  • Crawler accessSixteen AI and search crawlers checked against your robots rules. A page they cannot read cannot be a source.

The Google score: can Google show this page?

Ten checks, each from Google's own guidance. Scored every week and it uses no credits.

  • 1Crawlable, not blocked by robots or a noindex
  • 6Headings in order, one h1
  • 2Mobile layout that works at phone width
  • 7Internal links to and from the page
  • 3Served over HTTPS
  • 8Alt text on every image
  • 4A title of the right length that says what the page is
  • 9Structured data that validates
  • 5A description Google can use
  • 10In the sitemap

The gap, and the fixes that close it

For the page above, Google scored 82 and AI scored 54. Three edits, each with what, where and why.

Answer first

First paragraph

We have been fitting heat pumps across the South West since 2014, and our engineers are all MCS certified. A heat pump suits most 1930s semis once the radiators are sized for it. We have been fitting them across the South West since 2014.

Research. The sentence that answers the question goes first, because that is the sentence an assistant lifts.

Date it

Under the heading

Updated October 2026. Prices and grants below are checked each quarter.

Google's guidance. A visible date shows the page is maintained. Assistants prefer current sources.

Source the figure

Third paragraph

A typical install takes two days. Across the 140 installs we completed in 2025, a typical install took two days.

Good practice. Who measured it, where and when turns a claim into a fact an answer can cite.

Every page, every week

On the plan, both scores are refreshed weekly, so the Monday email shows whether the edit moved the page.

Because a page that Google likes can still be a page no assistant can use, and the other way round.
